A page from the Iron Man story in TALES OF SUSPENSE #48, the issue that introduced Iron Man’s familiar red and gold armor. Dick Ayers finished Steve Ditko’s breakdowns on this story, with a relatively heavy hand. Worth noting: the villain, Mister Doll, was originally to have been called Mister Pain, but the Comics Code objected to the name, requiring it to be relettered throughout the job.
Weirdly, I like Dick Ayers’ thick inks over Ditko’s breakdowns, particularly the last two panels. I’m so used to seeing Ditko inked with a thin line.
